Horoscope Review: Rock with Real Astrologer Daniel "Whelland" Dowd
Kickin' and Genuine Weekly Sun-Sign Forecasts
Daniel "Whelland" Dowd, salt-of-the-earth astrologer from Buffalo, NY, is a mellow Libra who writes kickin' weekly and daily free Sun-sign forecasts. Easy to use, Dowd's recently renovated site Weeklyhoroscope.com always prefaces its general weekly forecast with rock-and-roll song lyrics chosen to characterize the current week. Each sign gets its own specific reading, not necessarily of the future, but of the best ways to use current planetary energies. Or as Dowd puts it, "It's not my place to 'give advice'... I just tell you guys what the planets are indicating..."
Say "Daniel Whelland Dowd" out loud, and you might guess why he adopted that jokey middle name. If you can handle that, you'll like his tagline, "Keep the faith. Better Days & Higher Love are comin' soon..." and Dowd laughing at his own jokes ("hehehe"). Some might not care for his offhand style ("With Jupiter in your 11th House, you bet your ass that good fortune will not be found in the standard places or methods") but I like his daily and weekly free forecasts precisely because they're real, flavorful, and not computerized. He knows how to say a lot in few words: "Mercury retrograde is the universe telling us to slow down and to lighten up," he writes, and that is all anyone truly needs to know about Mercury in retrograde.
Becoming a member of the site is $49.99 per year and includes great benefits: a 35-page natal chart and computerized interpretation, and a 30 to 35 page solar return chart (your transits for the current year, starting with your birthday), and a Time Line. I couldn't get the sample Time Line to download so can't describe it. The sample solar return chart interpretations are computerized and appear alongside what look like Tarot cards, except they're not. I think this concept might be aiming to help horoscope fans who don't understand "astro-talk" and astrological symbols, and I appreciate that, but was confused despite the handsome layout. It also includes a list of the best "places to be" on your birthday, such as Auckland, New Zealand, or Mexico City, and why they're the best.
For guidance 365 days a year, Dowd offers also a personalized Day Watch calendar for $26.99 more. Also on the menu are free daily 'scopes, weekly 'scopes, and weekend 'scopes by Dawn. I searched for the monthly horoscopes mentioned on the home page and found none. The homepage has a Void-of-Course Moon table and a running list of current aspects, including asteroids. The Feature page lists game-like "oracles" for romance and finance, the Magic 8 Ball, and so on. The best of these is a list of Spiritual Laws, unique on an astrology site, as far as I know. Dowd announced an app and I was looking forward to it, but the Android version must still be in development.
I visit dozens of horoscope sites every week, hunting for the site that has everything, that does it all, that could be worth the price of membership. Dowd's comes close.
